WITH a little help from Highway drives, Vampire movies and disastrous phone calls former Rose Tattoo star Geordie Leach seems to have the next stage of his long career “All Stitched Up”.
Geordie and his hand-picked musicians of Gold Coasters are known aptly as The Geordie Leach Band will launch the brand new album “All Stitched Up” at the Currumbin Creek Tavern on Saturday, 18 February.
With a career spanning more than 40 years which has seen him working with Bon Jovi, Elton John and Joan Armatrading just to name drop a few and inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame with Rose Tattoo, Geordie Leach has seemingly done it all.
However after being in the background for much of his career this new project allows Geordie to finally come out as an artist in his own right – with a little help from his friends.
“Rose Tattoo is in the past, no big deal, I just had a desire to spread my wings and fly in a different direction” the unassuming Geordie said of the album put together over the past two years in a studio in Tallebudgera.
Co- creator, writer and lead singer is Andrea Szabo, a well-known Gold Coast singer, personality and entertainer.
The pair previously worked together on the covers album Mamas New Bag but this album marks their first release as a song-writing duo.
Asked to describe the album the bubbly Andrea, usually never stuck for words, finds it hard to pigeon-hole it – nor does she want to.
“The music style covers many genres, it’s not just one type of music,” she explained.
“Save Yourself has a Hillbilly Blues feel, Broken Man Blues is contemporary blues, Party Girl is adult contemporary, Love is a Virus (written for the Gold Coast-Tweed screening of Tilda Swinton movie) is Gothic Techno while the title track is adult – contemporary.
“Each song was inspired by events in our lives; the album was inspired by our need to make music,”
Already a force in itself, the band already has interest from France, Switzerland and Germany.
Australian audiences can get a taste of them live before they eventually venture out of town.
